A void to fill,
a life to live.
Founded in 1989, the Foundation aligns its mission with the ongoing work of all therapy houses and resources that support individuals struggling with addiction in Quebec.
On December 8, 2020, the David-Chiasson Foundation presented a webinar on alcohol and drug consumption in the workplace. The virtual meeting takes a human look at the state of affairs in general, and evokes the effects of isolation in times of pandemic.
From son to father
David Chiasson, whose hope for life faltered at the age of 25, was a highly intelligent, deeply sensitive, and profoundly humane individual. At the age of 22, shortly after returning from a long journey in India, tormented by an inner void and a life drying up within him, he entered therapy for detoxification. He emerged sober and abstinent, winning his first battle, but not the war.
Like a wounded soldier on the lonely road of life, he gradually returned to his world—a fragile one. He struggled to hold on to hope. He relapsed once, then again. In 2000, under the influence of his drug of choice, he took his own life. David loved surrounding himself with people who understood the suffering and despair of addiction. He sometimes lived with friends who were still grappling with dependency issues. As much as he enjoyed being with them, he also wished he could help them.
It was his tragic loss that inspired his father to create Cocoon Homes.
